Dave's iFriday: Peace

A firm believer in community action is down for the struggle and the snuggle

You'll have to forgive these old images looking small on today's desktop browsers. 500 pixels was considered pretty wide in 2007.

Tech Talk

Corel Painter, Watercolor tool. It's still not a perfect emulation of traditional watercoloring. Using faint values and flat coverage is particularly difficult. A fair amount of brush and color control was sacrificed just to produce finished art. However, I'm much happier with this than my previous attempt for Wind.

Another example of my fascination with how war and peace are inseparable realities. Hopefully this is more than an updated Vietnam War-era "Make Love Not War" concept.

So far, this week's theme "80s" just didn't grab me. I didn't want to break my iFriday streak (at least 1 per week since September '06) and had some unfinished business with the Peace theme.

iFriday Dave

Illustration Friday (IF, iFriday) was a weekly challenge to illustrate a one-word theme (wind, smoke, invention, etc.) globally announced on Friday nights. It was similar in spirit to Photo Friday, 24 Hour Comics, 48 Hour Films, and Sketchcrawl. Participants usually posted on their own blogs, then shared links to various iFriday boards. This is from my 2006-2007 participation.

This theme was a tough one to get a grip on...You're pic reminds me of a scene out of a 70's movie when there tended to be experimentation with layering of still scenes over an action shot...(not that I was looking for such things in the 70's but catch em on Turner classic or the like).

I like IF because of the challenge of not knowing what the topic will be. Sure, we can all have fun drawing those safe things that we are familiar with, but I like to try different things and create work for a topic, even if it's not my most favorite concept.

I sort of get tired seeing all of the repetitive cute things that are so familiar to many of the IF entries. Gotta stretch, experiment and grow!

I like your work, and admire your constant efforts!
